How Long Does Perfume Last on Skin? EDP vs EDT, Explained Simply
Share
You've seen "Eau de Parfum" printed on a hundred bottles. Here's what it actually means for how long your fragrance survives a workday — and why concentration is the first thing to check before you buy.
How long does perfume last on skin?
Most perfumes last between 4 and 12 hours on skin, depending on concentration. An eau de toilette (EDT) typically lasts 3–5 hours, while an eau de parfum (EDP) lasts 6–12 hours. Skin type, weather and where you apply it can move those numbers by a few hours in either direction.
What is the difference between EDP and EDT?
The difference is the percentage of perfume oil in the bottle. An EDT contains roughly 5–15% fragrance oil; an EDP contains roughly 15–20%. More oil means the scent clings to skin longer and projects further — which is why an EDP almost always outlasts an EDT of the same fragrance.
Every fragrance at The Pure Note is formulated as an eau de parfum with a generous oil dosage — you can see the expected longevity listed on every product page.
Why does the same perfume last longer on some people?
Skin chemistry. Fragrance evaporates faster from dry, warm skin and slower from hydrated, cooler skin. Oily and moisturised skin hold scent molecules longer, which is why the same bottle can last 5 hours on one person and 9 on another.
Three quick wins: apply to pulse points, apply right after moisturiser, and never rub your wrists together.
Which lasts longest: morning or evening application?
Application right after a shower, on moisturised skin, lasts longest — usually the morning routine. Damp-but-dry skin with a layer of unscented moisturiser gives fragrance oils something to bind to, adding 2–3 hours of wear compared to spraying on dry skin.
Frequently asked questions
Is EDP always better than EDT?
Not always better — longer. EDTs suit hot climates and office settings where you want a lighter presence. For all-day wear from one application, EDP wins.
How many sprays of EDP should I use?
2–4 sprays is enough for a quality EDP: one on each wrist, one on the neck. More than that projects further, not longer.
Does expensive perfume last longer?
Price doesn't determine longevity — concentration and formulation do. A well-made EDP at ₹1,399 can outlast a designer EDT at five times the price.
